Initially, I gave Aquaphor Advanced Therapy Healing Ointment a 3-star review, highlighting my concerns with it, but after using it for two months, I’ve upgraded my rating to 5 stars. While it remains greasy, the results make it worth it.
I initially purchased this product for a worsening dry skin condition on my left hand, particularly at the base of my thumb, which had become thick and painful. I was considering seeing a dermatologist, as the issue seemed exacerbated by frequent handwashing. I had tried coconut oil, emu oil, and Dr. Bronner’s lotion, but nothing seemed effective. The condition appeared to be spreading on my dominant hand, possibly some form of dermatitis, so I decided to give Aquaphor a try.
At first, I was frustrated by the greasiness, as mentioned in my original review. However, I persisted, and slowly my hand began to heal. I bought “Zealor 16 Pairs White Cotton Gloves” from Amazon and applied the ointment before putting on the gloves to avoid grease on surfaces. After about 20 minutes, I could remove the gloves, and the grease was gone. These gloves are also quite nice and wash well.
I applied the ointment several times daily, and at night, I would use a generous amount and wear the gloves to bed. It worked wonders—my hand has cleared up! I also started wearing “Liberty nitrile textured industrial-grade powder-free gloves” when washing dishes or cleaning to protect my skin. Now, my left hand feels soft, and my issues have disappeared. I plan to keep using this product.

To start, I initially rated it 3 stars due to the cost of what feels like glorified petroleum jelly. After seeing impressive reviews, I purchased two tubes for my purse and desk. I didn’t realize the ingredient information could be misleading. While it works, I feel it’s overpriced. I paid $4.76 for a 1.75 oz tube of Aquaphor and $3.48 for a 7.5 oz jar of Vaseline with Cocoa Butter.
Upon receiving Aquaphor, I tried it right away, applying a small amount to my hands. Even after half an hour, my hands felt slightly sticky. It’s not ideal for quick moisturizing, as I didn’t want to touch anything afterward, which led me to examine the ingredients.
The active ingredient is petrolatum (which I spelled correctly). I found that petrolatum is simply another term for petroleum jelly. The inactive ingredients include mineral oil, Ceresin, lanolin alcohol, panthenol, glycerin, and bisabolol. I listed the details below for fairness:
